Listening to the Senators
The Roman senate was one of the most fascinating things about Ancient Rome. If you went to see the senate you would see laws being discussed, military ideas and strategies, political issues, problems with the city and the welfare of the citizens. Many years before Pompeii, Rome was a kingdom. During this period the king of Rome would declare and make all the laws he wanted to. In the time of Pompeii Rome was a Republic. Laws would be disused and voted for. The leader would also be voted for. Rome had one of the biggest empires at the time which meant it needed a very organised government to run the people and the land. It is believed that the success of the roman empire is mainly because of its governing system which is why it is fascinating to learn and understand what the laws and regulations were back then, and especially because a lot of the laws from back then are still used now.
