Being a Good Citizen
Everyone had to obey the Roman Laws which were very strict. Citizens were expected to vote, serve Rome and follow the rules of society. They could also be expected to join the army and fight for the empire, or work in government.
Family was very important and Romans took their duty to their family very seriously. A father had a duty to look after his family and to lead the household, including in worshiping the gods. Children would obey their families and marry whoever their parent chose for them, as this was done to make alliances between powerful families.
A wealthy Roman patrician would have lots of supporters, or clients who he would help. They would visit him each day and go out with him and vote for him if he became a politician. In return for this he would usually help them with their career.
Roman women would take care of the running of the house and looking after the children. They would support their husbands career, and often took over his business when he was away.
